Vacuuming
To keep your furniture looking like the day you bought it, vacuum or lightly brush it weekly. This will remove built up soil and help protect the fabric from the embedding of dirt between the fibers.
Cushion Turning
Reverse your cushions every week to allow them to wear evenly and gracefully over a long period of time
Fabric Protection
Today's fabrics are more stain resistant than ever before, thanks to some of the protective finishes put on at the factory. However, these finishes don't make your furniture stain proof. Loose dirt still needs to be vacuumed or brushed away and spills and stains need to be cleaned following the manfacturer's care code instructions below.
Keeping to the Code
Each piece of furniture carries a cleaning code. The code letters are W, S, W-S and X. You'll usually find this code on the cleaning label located unter the seat cushion.
If the entire piece needs to be cleaned it's best to call in a professional. Never remove the cushion covers or arm caps for separate cleaning. They can shrink and the backing can become ruined, causing your furniture to look dowdy and unkept.
Code "W"
To clean Code W furniture, follow the steps above to keep dirt and grim from building up in the fibers. If you need to clean a spot, use the foam from a water-based cleaning agent such as a mild detergent. Apply the foam in a circualr motion and vacuum when dry. Bring in a professional cleaning servien when the overall condition of the furniture has become dull and dirty.
Code "S"
Frequent vacuuming and light brushing is your first line of defense again. To spot clean use a mild water-free solvent or a dry cleaning product containing carbon tetrachoride (use care, it's very toxic). Test a small area before proceeding. It the area is large, it's best to use a professional.
Code "W-S"
Vacuum and lightly brush the fabric weekly. To clean spots, use a mild solvent, upholstery shampoo or the foam from a mild detergent. Make sure you follow the instructions on the package carefully. Do not use products that contain carbon tetrachloride. When the furniture looks dirty overall, call in a professional cleaning service.
Code "X"
Water-based foam furniture cleaners or solvent based furniture cleaning agents of any kind may cause excessive shrinking, staining or distortion of the surface pile. Do not use them on Code X material. Instead, clean this fabric only by vacuuming or light brushing to prevent accumulation of dust or grime.
